So this time last week, I was sat with my little family on the beautiful island of Mallorca. We had not been abroad for 5 years as we had chosen staycations instead but this year we decided we needed guaranteed sunshine and sea warm enough to swim in! We chose Mallorca as it is such a quick flight and so so pretty. I have wonderful memories of holidaying there as a child and was keen to share them with my minis.
We definitely made the right choice, we stayed at The Iberostar Club Cala Barca on an All Inclusive rate. The hotel was lovely and was a great base for us to go and explore the surrounding Mandrago National Park and it’s beautiful coves. Our children really relished the opportunity to discover new beaches, catch fish, find shells and of course build sand castles! We created some beautiful memories and we can’t wait to revisit and explore more of this beautiful part of The Mediterranean.
So what did I wear for all of this holidaying? Well, I see a holiday as an opportunity to be a little more flamboyant in your outfit choices. Therefore, I set about planning with great gusto!
This 1970s maxi skirt was nothing short of flamboyant and immediately got me in the holiday mood. It’s vibrant print and colour teamed with a simple black cami made it an effortless outfit. I found this skirt on a recent charity shop trip and literally gasped as I picked it off the rail! It will serve me very well and is one of those pieces you just can not help but smile in.
Talking of charity shop finds, the next two outfits are again vintage pieces found hidden away on the rails of my local stores. Firstly, these high waisted (we all know I love a high waist) pleated trousers are so incredibly amazing and make me feel a million dollars. I teamed it with this pretty little H&M top and honestly felt seriously Marilyn with my red lippy.
Sticking with the ever classic black, this vintage dress was yet again a jackpot moment in my favourite charity shop! The cut is as though it was made for me, I find vintage fits my shape much better and always feel it is so flattering. I emphasised the fit further with a little waist belt (my favourite accessory and a real shape changer) and of course some statement earrings, as well as the bold red lips. What is it about a black dress and a good red lipstick that just makes you feel so glamourous?
Glamorous isn’t a word I would usually use to describe my style but as I said a holiday for me is really a time to have fun and push the boat out…even if it is only an inflatable one!!! This New Look dress is in a beautiful orange red colour and with sun kissed skin it was a dream! I enjoyed wearing this so much, especially as it was so unlike anything I’ve ever worn before. I find red difficult to wear usually but I think I’ve found my tone!
The next two dresses are such gorgeous holiday staples. Both are cool and lightweight with the most gorgeous embroidery. Perfect for that Mediterranean feel of laid back loveliness. The Blue Zara dress was so comfortable, I spent a whole day mooching through Cala D’or in it, those big sleeves kept it airy. I felt so free and hippy in it which was the whole vibe of the holiday.
This embroidered beauty is by Abercrombie and Fitch via Next. I loved the laid back feel of this dress but it still had a real prettiness to it.
Gingham and green…these are a few of my favourite things! This New Look skirt is so fun to wear, especially with the pop of green. I love the versatility of a good skirt, dress it up with a slinky top and heels or dress it down with a tee and trainers. This one ticks all the boxes.
Last but not least, a holiday wardrobe wouldn’t be complete without a collection of gorgeous swimwear that you feel good in. This Marks and Spencer’s one piece is so gorgeous in the sunshine and the fit is really flattering. It has tummy control to give you that bit of extra confidence and is supportive up top. Here’s my best “Dirty Dancing” impression….I carried a watermelon?!
Now there’s nothing more classic than a well cut black one piece. I teamed this old F and F one (their swimwear collection is brilliant) with some leopard print mom shorts. Again, I love the vintage feel to this shape and was channeling my inner old school Hollywood diva. Even more so after a few midday G&Ts!!
Lastly is this amazing vintage polka dot cossie, I just feel like “me” in this little number. Teaming it with these Topshop pleated trousers and my big floppy hat had me feeling all Hepburnesque.
So there it is, the highlights of my holiday wardrobe. A big shout out to my lovely husband who was photographer for the week!
A week of sun, sand, sea is always nice but when you are sharing it with your absolute world, it can’t be beaten.
